The scripture Lesson for this Sunday Is from Romans 15:4-13

4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. 5 May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, 6 so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7 Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of the truth of God in order that he might confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, 9 and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,

‘Therefore I will confess you among the Gentiles,

and sing praises to your name’;

10 and again he says,

‘Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people’;

11 and again,

‘Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles,

and let all the peoples praise him’;

12 and again Isaiah says,

‘The root of Jesse shall come,

the one who rises to rule the Gentiles;

in him the Gentiles shall hope.’

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

ChurchWide Christmas Cantata

Children will meet promptly at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the choir room with Ms. Jane, Ms. LeeAnne, and Ms. Michelle as we prepare for our special Christmas Cantata to be presented on Sunday, December 14, in the morning worship service! We’ll be learning joyful new songs and assigning parts-so come ready to sing, learn, and be part of the celebration!

An Invitation to You

As we continue through Advent toward Christmas, Lisa and I want to express our thanks for the welcome you have given us as we have moved into your community and your church. More than making us feel welcome, you have made us feel right at home, and we are both very grateful.

One way you have done this is by providing an attractive and comfortable parsonage that we can call home during our time as your clergy family. Final touches of deep cleaning were taking place even as Lisa and I moved in this past July. Since then the interior of the parsonage has been freshly painted along with the exterior entryways, the carpets and upholstery were professionally cleaned, new lighting and ceiling fans were placed in the den and master bedroom, lovely touches like new lampshades were added, the yard is maintained to perfection . . . the list goes on and on! You have not only spoken words of welcome, you have shown your welcome by the great care you have given in these and other ways.

To show our thanks, Lisa and I would like to show off the parsonage with a holiday open-house. On Sunday, December 14, from 3 to 5 p.m., we invite you to drop by the parsonage (523 McCall Drive) for some light refreshments and see the lovely home you make possible for your pastor and family. Because our driveway is steep, we have arranged to use our buses as a shuttle service between the church and parsonage, allowing you to avoid walking up the hill. But, if you aren’t daunted by the climb, you should be able to find plenty of parking along McCall Drive.

Allow me to say a word of thanks to the good folks of our church who have volunteered to make goodies for this open house! While Lisa is looking forward to doing some holiday baking for this event, the willingness of these church friends to add to the refreshments will help to make this a wonderful celebration. We thank you!

It is a blessing to be your pastor, and Lisa and I couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of the Forest City community. We hope this open house will allow us to say thank you for the love you have shown us, will allow us to show off the home you make possible for us, and will allow us to grow in fellowship and love as we continue through Advent and enter the season of Christmas. We look forward to having you in our home, and we look forward to serving the Lord with you for many years to come.

The Lord be with you!

Rev. Bill Roberts

The FUMC Newsletter

This page on the church website is the permanent home of the newsletter. Text-to-speech apps will work on this page. Older newsletters are archived, and the current newsletter will always be at this address. This mobile-friendly format is much more accessible and allows for immediate updates to information. Feel free to check by as often as you like. The goal is for major updates to happen on schedule by Wednesday, and a print edition will still be sent via US Mail to those who request it. Please let the church office know if you no longer wish to receive the printed copy.

May the Peace of the Lord, and His Blessings be with you all, and we hope to see you on Sunday!
